"Hi" and "Bye"

and "eye" - these are Lilli's first words :-) she said "eye" first, but we weren't sure if it was a word or not until she started saying "hi" a few days later and then last night she said "bye" to the dog when we went out to do an errand. it's so great to hear her talking!

this is our picture from yesterday at the park; we go there every day as long as it's nice and Lilli has a great time just running around in the grass since there are pretty much no boundaries! (sorry these are a little blurry - they were taken with my phone)
she also wanted to try on my sunglasses (as usual) and managed to get them on her face!

We've moved to New Jersey, so Lilli is now officially a Jersey Girl :-) Unfortunately that's kept me very busy and I've been unable to post till now. It seems as if we have quite a bit of catching up to do! Here are some recent pictures of Lilli...

She learned how to use the broom - lots of fun!

She also likes to use utensils! At least some of the time...
She also recently decided to see what life inside the cupboard might be like...

And then promptly decided that it was far better not to be in the cupboard!
She also enjoys going on (almost) daily wagon rides now that the weather is getting nice...
and she also likes to pull the wagon around. We think she's telling us that she wants more wagon time but, sadly for Lilli, she is usually unable to persuade us.
And, last but certainly not least, Lilli loves her Daddy :-)

Lilli is a bulldozer... keep your babies out of her way!

Lilli is computing the fact that she's actually allowed to rip the paper!
She's really warmed up to this toy - it's definitely a new favorite. She especially likes the gears on the side and the wire-bead part on the top...
and she liked the latkes too!
although there were cuter pictures from this series, out of respect for Charlie we chose one that keeps his business more private ;-)
the following morning, Charlie demonstrated how a "go-go bike" works while Lilli looked on. Charlie was nice enough to grant her permission to play with the super-cute yellow car and then we were even allowed to bring it home with us, where Lilli continues to enjoy it!

Lilli has been very busy lately! We went down to New Rochelle last weekend to visit with Aunt Eleanor, Uncle Nick and family. Lilli had so much fun playing with her big cousin, Charlie, and inspecting her little cousins, Conrad and Alexander! She also pointed for the first time last Friday - it was at a light, which isn't particularly surprising to Mommy since they've always fascinated her so much :-) Then just a few minutes later she started to say "mamamama", which was music to Mommy's ears! She's also taking multiple steps in a row these days, although crawling is definitely still the mode of choice when it comes to transporting herself. I don't think it'll be too long before she gives it up though! We're so impressed with all the big steps this little girl is taking these days.

Crawling around under the table is a favorite pastime - she loves to go over the wood bars.

Boo! or Peekaboo, rather - Lilli totally loves this game :-)

She definitely enjoys having her picture taken!
This slinky was a Hanukkah gift from Aunt Eleanor and it provided Lilli with much entertainment yesterday after passing the "shake" test. (As in, it's fun when she shakes it!)

First, we went to pick out a pumpkin. Lilli thought it was a lot of fun, and Daddy even had a good time since he was able to find some cider donuts (although we don't actually have any photo evidence of the cider donuts...)

Then we went to a fun Halloween party. The pumpkin is Lilli's friend from the class we go to at Cartwheels for Kids. I think it's really cute that they're looking at each other as if to say, "You do realize you're dressed as a pumpkin/puppy, right?"

Then we let our puppy play in the yard with some leaves :-) It took her a while to catch on to the whole leaves-can-be-fun idea, but she got it eventually!

And, since everyone's parents have to embarrass them with bathtub pictures, here's one of Lilli... She especially enjoys the bubbles, the duck on the faucet and (of course) splashing around!

Lilli is continuing to cruise, and recently she discovered that she can actually walk behind the little walker toy in addition to playing with the various fun toys on the front. She's also doing a lot of cruising, still climbing the stairs every chance she gets and is after Sadie pretty much all the time! Last week, after Mommy and Daddy started to worry about when exactly it was going to happen, Lilli decided to grace us with her lovely voice and started to babble. Yay! Now we'll just have to keep listening to see what comes first; Mama or Dada...

Lilli's bunting came recently and Mommy just had to try it on her... Yay for Land's End making such a super-cute bunting - it has a removable faux fur thingy around the face. I'm pretty sure we'll be leaving that on, though ;-)

Sometimes we hide Cheerios in Lilli's little LeapFrog table and it's always such an exciting surprise when she finds them...

She continues to enjoy bagels regularly...

and Sadie is still an excellent helper when it's time to clean up!
In fact, sometimes it's almost like we have two dogs!

Lilli decided to go mobile recently! First she was scooting and then, before we knew it, she was crawling and now she even pulls up on things. Here are some of our favorite pictures from the last few weeks...

She's can't wait to do Pilates someday - here she is doing a baby plank :-)

She can't escape the highchair and Daddy's peas, though. (we put the "give peas a chance" bib on her especially for the occasion of eating peas for dinner. because we're dorks. you know...)

Six Months!!

One of Lilli's favorite "treats" is to have an ice cube in one of these mesh feeding things - she can suck on it, which makes her gums feel great, but she can't get too small of a piece and choke! She's finished the ice cube in this picture, but she's still enjoying the mesh as you can see from the fierce look in her eyes!

She's a giant! I can't believe that she can 1) sit up all on her own like that and 2) that when she does, she's all the way up to the arches on her activity mat!

It was getting so hard to type with her on my lap because she always wanted to "type" herself, so I brilliantly decided to go out and get a new keyboard since the old one was really loud and old anyway and now she has a great new toy.

She really loves to play with her feet :-)
She was rolling around on the floor one day and managed to get the headband stuck on her head - we think it looks great and can't wait till she has some hair to hold back with one someday!

So, at six months, Lilli is doing so many things! She sits up on her own, gets onto her hands and knees and is creeping. She also pulls herself up onto Mommy fairly often, so I'm sure it won't be long before she realizes she can also pull herself up on other things like the sofa or Sadie. By the way, Sadie is also starting to see the bright side of having a baby sister now that Lilli sometimes gets a teething biscuit that she so kindly shares with the dog when she's bored of it and/or moves onto the next activity. Speaking of Lilli and food, she's loving all of her fruits, most of the vegetables and still prefers oatmeal to the other cereals. In another month or so we'll try giving her some meat so she can be a proper omnivore :-)

At the doctor this week, Lilli was 17 lb, 9 oz (80th percentile) and 27 inches long (90th percentile). She did not enjoy her shots, but at least we don't have to go back for three months now so she gets a little bit of a breather! The doctor was very impressed with all of her mobility and how well she was sitting up, and the nurse was so impressed with how cute Lilli is that she brought someone to peek in just to see her :-)

We had Lilli's six month portraits done, so we'll pass on the online gallery just as soon as we get it from the photographer. Thanks for checking in!

Lilli does Manhattan and Ohio!

Although it might seem impossible to tell this grass from any other, Lilli knew that it was special because it was growing in Central Park! Unfortunately, she kept Mama on her toes so much that this was one of the only pictures to come from our trip to Manhattan...

Once in Ohio, Lilli was able to meet her Great-Grandmother Schulz...
and her Great-Grandmother Smith!

Not to mention, her Great-Aunt Dorothy and Great-Uncle Ralph...

who happened to have an extremely interesting watch that Lilli talked to and/or played with for at least thirty minutes!

Lilli also went to a diner and sat in a high chair this month!

This is what just one spoonful of prunes can do, people... Just one.

Lilli really loves her dog - Sadie is one of the few things that she consistently finds hilarious!

Lilli had her first bowl of oatmeal! It was one of Mommy's favorites while she was pregnant and Lilli ate it right up. We think there may be a connection...

The oatmeal was follwed by bananas...

which were less warmly received.
Luckily Lilli's dog, Sadie, was more than happy to help her out and finish them...

but she'll have to wait to get any of Daddy's ice cream!

Lilli does Nantucket...

on her first family vacation, Lilliana went to Nantucket!

Nantucket was so much fun - we definitely plan to go back next year for more good times and hopefully we'll actually make it to a beach then! Today, we went to the doctor for her four month checkup and Lilli weighed 15 lbs, 4 oz and was 26.5 inches long! She didn't like her shots, but cheered up quickly afterwards and is now taking a nice long nap...

She loves to sit in her Bumbo seat on the activity mat - it's basically the only way she'll play there!
Lilli did not want me to take her picture this morning because she's having a bad hair day. (Daddy combed her hair after the bath last night. obvs he doesn't understand the importance of this task yet...)

The remote is Lilli's new favorite toy. Every time we're on the bed and she sees it she starts talking to it until I put it on her lap and then she's occupied with it for a pretty decent amount of time!

I can't believe how fast the time goes - we're so bad about posting new pictures!

Here's her three month picture...

Everything goes straight into her mouth these days!

This is the new toy we got so that she'll tolerate some "tummy time" - it has a ladybug that Lilli can lay on and it spins around on an activity mat.
Luckily there are antennae on the ladybug so that she has something to chew on whilst performing various baby activities...

We went to visit Aunt Eleanor, Uncle Nick and Charlie last weekend and they had this cool bouncer seat which actually prompted Lilli to really play for the first time!
She also went to the pool with Charlie three days in a row. Of course, it was on the third and final visit to the pool that she decided that the water was actually ok!

When we go our to eat, this is basically where we go. It's extremely baby-friendly, and Lilli seems to be pretty comfortable in the surroundings, usually allowing us to eat a quick meal while she naps. Geoff's friend Abby was visiting and took some pics, so finally there are some shots of Lilli and Mommy together.

Lill's second bath (because we were having so much trouble figuring out how to give the first one that we forgot to take any pictures!) which she seemed to enjoy much more than sponge baths. We were so happy to be able to graduate from those - her cord stump didn't come off till the day before her one month b'day!

Lilli got a clean bill of health again at the pediatrician's office. She gained another 1 lb, 2 oz and is up to 9 lb, 4 oz and 21.5 inches. That puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and the 90th for height - apparently we have a tall baby!

We went to the mom's group at temple today and got to meet another baby, but Lilli was sleeping most of the time so I don't think she noticed. She took two really good naps earlier, which was promising since she's not typically a good sleeper during the day. We're approaching the evening hours, though, and she's starting to get cranky as usual. Hopefully this isn't a sign of what's to come for the rest of the night, but since she usually does pretty good I think it's probably just time for her first dinner and a good burp.

Update: it was a sign of things to come... Lilli was awake on and off for about four hours; we think it was most likely the result of some pretty bad gas, but she eventually went to sleep for the night around ten and actually managed to sleep really well. I only had to wake up twice to feed her, which means I got to sleep pretty well too!

Lilliana Claire was born at 10:38 PM on February 18th, 2007 - six days late! She had her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck twice, so she was having a little trouble breathing and had to go to the NICU. So, we didn't get to spend the first couple of days with her like we thought we would because she ended up staying there for some antibiotics, but now we've got her home and she's all ours!
